The new Department for Clinical Research (DCR) will hold the first "Day of Clinical Research" at the University of Bern and Inselspital. The "Day of Clinical Research" is intended to take place annually during the "Week of Clinical Research" and aims:

  • to showcase the success of current research
  • to provide education through stimulating keynote speakers
  • to discuss topical issues regarding clinical research
  • to promote networking interactions, particularly for junior researchers and for interdisciplinary research

DCR Day of Clinical Research 2023

Highlights of the program include lectures by invited keynote speakers, the "Future of Swiss Clinical Research" panel, and sessions for junior researchers.

We invite all members of the institutes and clinics of the Faculty of Medicine, including students, and of the Inselspital to register for the "Bern Highlights" and "Junior Research" sessions and submit their applications.

The "Bern Highlights" session (14.45-15.45 on Thu 7 Dec) will showcase four oral presentations of highly impactful, innovative clinical research projects performed and/or led by University of Bern/ University Hospital researchers.

The "Best of Junior Research" session (15.45-16.15 on Thu 7 Dec) will highlight impactful and innovative research performed and/or led by junior clinical researchers (defined as pre-habilitation). Presentations will be Pecha Kucha style (20 slides, each for 20 seconds). Four presenters will be selected for the DCR Day of Clinical Research, with a further 12 oral presentations (6 for completed studies and 6 for studies in progress) to be presented at the Bern Junior Research Showcase, Mon 4 Dec, 16.00-18.30.

Best poster presentations by young researchers will be awarded with prize money and certificates. During the abstract submission, you can select the categories for which you want to be considered. Eligibility criteria and detailed information are available below.

Poster preparation and setup:

The authors are responsible for printing, mounting, and removing the posters.

You will receive a number before posters can be displayed. The poster boards will be numbered. You will find your poster number on the list of abstracts which will be posted on the DCR homepage in November 2023 and will also be displayed in the Foyer of the Langhans Auditorium. Please check the poster list carefully to make sure you hang the poster on the correct poster board.

Poster format:    A0 (H 118.9 cm x W 84.1 cm), portrait format only

Mounting:           From 8:00 - 11.30 am on Thursday, 7 Dec 2023

Material for pinning the poster to the boards will be available in the poster area.

Putting up the poster will be done by each author.

Where: Langhans Auditorium, Inselspital

Removal:             Latest by 19.30 on 7 Dec 2023

Remaining posters will be disposed.

At the DCR Day of Clinical Research, awards are given for the best poster presentations by young researchers. Posters are evaluated by the DCR Day of Clinical Research Committee

Eligibility:

  • Posters describing clinical research projects that are current or recently completed (past 1 year)
  • Posters presented/planned to present at another meeting are eligible.
  • Attendance by at least one poster author is compulsory; to receive a prize, the first or senior author must be in attendance.

Categories:

  • Best Investigator Initiated Clinical Trial
  • Best Trial in Progress
  • Best visual presentation of a poster
  • Best poster by a medical student
  • Best poster by a PhD candidate
  • Best poster by a Masters candidate
  • Best Multidisciplinary Research

Evaluation Criteria

  • Background provides appropriate perspective/context for the subject.
  • Objectives/research questions are clearly stated.
  • Research design and methods are clear and appropriate.
  • Research objectives are met/addressed.
  • Factual information is kept separate from interpretations or implications
  • Clarity of presentation.

Prize Committee and evaluation process

  • Poster applications will be reviewed by the DCR Day of Clinical Research Committee
  • The decision of the committee is final and cannot be appealed. There is no legal requirement to decide the prizes.

Award announcement:

The winners of all prizes will be only announced and awarded on the Day of Clinical Research Day on Thursday, 7 Dec, 2023.
